Charles Hays started the Systems Group in 1974, with the formation of Hays Mechanical Company. In our early years, we focused on commercial and industrial mechanical work on a regional basis. Hays Mechanical changed its name to Systems Contracting Corporation in 1982. Since the late 1980's, Systems Contracting has expanded its operations to projects in many of the 48 contiguous states of the U.S., as well as projects in Canada, Mexico, Trinidad, and Thailand.

In 1984, The Systems Group purchased American Steel Company. American Steel Company specializes in the fabrication of structural steel for the industrial, municipal and commercial markets as well as fabrication of process piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks, large ductwork, furnaces or any other type of specialized fabrication.

In 1999, The Systems Group purchased System Spray-Cooled Equipment Company from UCAR Carbon Company. Systems Spray-Cooled Equipment Co. engineers, designs and supplies non-pressurized water-cooled systems for electric steel making furnaces in particular and the entire metals industry in general. The non-pressurized water-cooled systems are based on a unique, patented technology, which has a well-proven track record.
